How do you take care of a venus fly trap?
Thursday, July 15th, 2010I was given a fly trap as a birthday present. I love it. I named her-him Calliope. Plants are both male and female. Anyhow. I know to water it high sunlight keep it warm and feed it insects. i do love catching insects. How big does a fly trap get? Why are they insectavores? And how do I make it live for years?

Sunday, June 20th, 2010How Long Does It Take For A Venus Fly Trap To Begin Growing From A Seed?
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010I planted a venus fly trap about 2 weeks ago now and I water it regularly. It is in a small 1.5in-2in high pot which is about 1.5ins wide and I keep it in a tea plate which I fill with water whenever necessary. The instructions said to keep a clear plastic bag over it until the first plants appear and nothing has happened yet.
This trap must “drink” about one small bottle of water a day, which I gradually pour into the teaplate as you cannot water it from the top…however…I can’t seem to see any difference from when I first planted it!
I’m not the most garden-minded man alive, so I would love to know roughly how long I should be waiting for the first “signs of life” – is 2 weeks normal or should I have to wait longer?
Any help would be highly appreciated!
Thanks all!

How to winterize my venus fly trap?
Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010I have a venus fly trap that I love like family so I bought it cool stuff:a glass terrarium, filtered water, canadian moss, heater, uv lamp, full spectrum fluorescent lamp, climate control, and this cool sensor that knows if it is winter, spring, summer, or fall that turns the light on and off based on the seaon. My qustion is how much mositure, heat etc do I need to winterize them. THANKS.
Venus Fly Trap!? I’ve never had one before: this one was given to me as a gift and I need some advise about it
Sunday, February 14th, 2010Hi, my landlord and I are great friends and we hang out alot. The other day he came over while I was researching venus fly traps on the net so I confessed to him that I’ve always wanted to set-up a terrarium for a venus fly trap but that I’ve never gotten around to doing it. Then the next day he found out that I was moving two hours away, he showed up at my door with a venus fly trap in a tiny pot as a going away gift. (sweet man) He offered to buy me anything I needed or wanted to set up my terrarium for the fly trap…I already have a 2.5 gallon tank with a glass lid, plus the plant, but we’re shopping tomorrow morning for the rest of the needed supplies so that we can set up the terrarium tomorrow afternoon YET I’m still not sure of how to set up the terrarium nor am I sure of the exact care for venus fly traps!
any advise on setting up terrariums for venus fly traps
or any advise on the care of venus fly traps (humidity, food…)
would be greatly appreciated!
thanks ya’ll!
here are the websites that I’ve been doing my research on:

http://www.thegardenhelper.com/terrarium.html
http://www.pitcherplant.com/care_sheets/flytrap_care.html
http://www.sarracenia.com/faq/faq2000.html
http://www.cobraplant.com/venus-flytrap.html
http://www.expertvillage.com/interviews/venus-fly-traps.htm
they’ve been very informative however some contradict each other and it always helps to talk to people about their experiences rather than rely on what you read on a website
thanks again!
