Festival season officially kicked off with the Coachella Valley Music Festival in Indio, Calif. in April and will go out with a bang in Austin, Texas in October. The ninth annual Austin City Limits Festival will take place in its usual Zilker Park location in Texas Oct. 8-10 and will be headlined by the Eagles, Phish, Muse, the Strokes and M.I.A. ACL will be Phish’s only stop in the Lone Star State in 2010 (they wrap up their summer tour in August) while ACL will be the Strokes’ second-only U.S. show of the year (they are slated to perform at Lollapalooza). Billboard.com reports that over 130 acts are lined up for the 2010 edition of ACL, such as first-time performers Broken Bells, Miike Snow, Girls and Temper Trap.

with fellow headliners the Strokes. Other acts slated to perform on the first day of the festival include Vampire Weekend, Sonic Youth, the Black Keys, Broken Bells, Slightly Stoopid, Beach House, Girls, Blues Traveler, Miike Snow and many more. The second day of the festival (Sat., Oct. 9) will be headlined by Muse and M.I.A. Monsters of Folk, LCD Soundsystem, Deadmau5, Gogol Bordello, Local Natives, Pat Green, Gaslight Anthem, the Temper Trap, Matt and Kim, Pete Yorn and others will also perform.

Austin has been hailed the live music capital of the world and the Texas city sure lives up to its nickname during ACL weekend! The first annual Austin City Limits festival was held in 2002 and has been showcasing local Texas acts as well as nationally touring artists and bands since then. The 2009 edition of the ACL Festival was headlined by Kings of Leon, Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam and Ben Harper and Relentless7. Last year’s festival also featured performances by Thievery Corporation, John Legend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Them Crooked Vultures, Phoenix, Ghostland Observatory, Citizen Cope, the Dead Weather, Arctic Monkeys and many more.
Austin City Limits is produced by Austin-based C3 Presentsâthe company is also behind Chicago’s Lollapaloozaâand the 2010 edition of ACL will be sponsored by Budweiser, AMD, American Express, Austin ventures, BMI, H-E-B and Sweet Tea Leaf. The 2009 edition of ACL raked in $13.5 million and drew an audience of 195,000 people over its three days. Billboard placed the festival at No. 4 on its top 10 list of the highest-grossing festivals of 2009 and with this year’s impressive lineup it is sure to make it in the top five of the 2010 list!
